Tra Otto e Novecento il lago di Garda ha ispirato pittori di tutta Europa, incantando gli occhi di artisti come Camille Corot, John Singer Sargent, Gustav Klimt.
Il Garda era meta ambita per la buona società europea, soprattutto nella Belle Époque, tappa del grand tour di tanti artisti, soprattutto provenienti dall’area di lingua tedesca, ma a dipingere le sue rive sono stati anche tantissimi artisti autoctoni, come Luigi Bonazza dalle regioni trentine, Guido Farina dalle sponde veronesi, o Augusto Lozzia da quelle bresciane.
Anche oggi il Lago di Garda è un modello incantevole per le nostre foto, ma osservare le opere di questi artisti permette di riscoprire un paesaggio unico nel suo genere, alpino e mediterraneo, con una natura ancora incontaminata, dove la città rimaneva ai margini. Il paesaggio era semplice e genuino, ad animare le strade lavandaie, pescatori e popolani.

Between the 19th and 20th centuries, Lake Garda inspired painters from all over Europe, enchanting the eyes of artists such as Camille Corot, John Singer Sargent, Gustav Klimt.
Lake Garda was a popular destination for good European society, especially in the Belle Époque, a stop on the Grand Tour of many artists, especially from the German-speaking area. Also, many native artists portrayed its shores, such as Luigi Bonazza from the Trentino regions, Guido Farina from the Veronese shores, or Augusto Lozzia from the Brescia ones.
Even today Lake Garda is an enchanting model for our photos, but observing the works of these artists allows you to rediscover a unique landscape of its kind, Alpine and Mediterranean, with still unspoiled nature, where the city remained on the edge. The landscape was simple and genuine, animating the streets were washerwomen, fishermen, and commoners.
A wonder of nature and an enchanting spectacle, this is how Goethe described Garda in his Journey to Italy.
